On September 9th 2026, we will be participating in IMATEX, the world’s first 100% virtual Assistive Technology Expo. We are excited about this new experience, as this will be our first time attending the expo.
What is IMATEX?
IMATEx (Immersive Assistive Technology Expo) is an initiative of Aventido and David Banes Access and Inclusion Services. It is a fully digital place to meet vendors, explore products, attend talks, and connect with the assistive technology community.
Attending IMATEX as a delegate is completely free, and since it is an online event, participating has never been easier.
Why IMATEX could be the new blueprint for future expo participation
Besides the novelty of having a fully digital experience, IMATEX could be the future of trade fairs for many different reasons.
The first, and possibly biggest, reason is that it completely eliminates the need to be physically present at the event. This is especially important for an expo about assistive technology. IMATEX might be an expo where the online experience itself becomes a showcase of innovative assistive technology.
Many people might take for granted how much of a hurdle it can be for some people to attend expos in person, especially people who use and/or need assistive technology. This new experience eliminates many of the logistical and travel challenges that assistive technology users can face when they want to participate in such an important expo and join the assistive community.
The second reason is that online participation has never been the full experience before. Often, expos and trade fairs offer the opportunity for online participation as a secondary option, while attendees may still miss out on the main conversations and events that happens on location. IMATEX changes that by designing the event as a digital-first experience, where every attendee participates on equal terms and enjoy the possibilities to the fullest.
Finally, IMATEX enhances accessibility from a financial perspective too. Attendance is free of charge, and the only requirements are a smart device and an internet connection. While this does not remove every limitation, it significantly lowers the cost of participation for many, including educators, therapists, families, and professionals who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend.
