A unique tool for children with dyslexia

We use the Clevy Dyscover in our work with elementary school students who struggle with reading and spelling. It’s a great addition to the “Taal in Blokjes” method, as the colors of the keys almost perfectly match the color blocks.

Children are always very enthusiastic about the Clevy Dyscover and ask every week if they can use it again. The combination of typing the letters and receiving immediate auditory feedback makes it particularly valuable in treatment. Children are immediately prompted to think when they hear the wrong sound.

I use the Clevy Dyscover in my practice to support sound-sign linkage problems in children with severe dyslexia at care level 4. The keyboard helps and supports with distinguishing the long and short vowels and the sound groups ‘aai-ooi-oei’, ‘eeuw-ieuw-uw’.

I notice in practice that the children really like the fact that they can hear and see what they are typing which supports the learning process. It gives them another boost to work on spelling.

I work at a Special Education (BUSO) school (OV1, Type 4), which means students with motor disabilities. Writing often requires a lot of effort from them, so we teach some of them to type words. The Dyscover is a great addition here: diphthongs and other cluster sounds can be entered with the press of a single button. This is more in line with phonemic awareness and, at the same time, requires less motor effort on their part.
