World Autism Awareness Day

Every year on April 2nd, the world comes together to recognize and celebrate World Autism Awareness Day. It’s a day dedicated to spreading awareness, increasing understanding upon this matter, and advocating for the inclusion of individuals with autism in every aspect of society. At Clevy, we believe that awareness leads to acceptance, and acceptance leads to empowerment. This day is a reminder that every person, regardless of ability, deserves the opportunity to thrive.

The Origin and Importance of World Autism Awareness Day

Established by the United Nations in 2007, World Autism Awareness Day was created to highlight the need for supports for people with autism. Autism is not a limitation—it’s a unique way of experiencing the world. By recognize this, we can move from “just” awareness to “actual” inclusion, ensuring that individuals with autism have access to education, employment, and social opportunities that allow them to shine.

Raising awareness is about more than just understanding the challenges; it’s about recognizing strengths, celebrating diversity, and breaking down barriers. When society embraces neurodiversity, we create a world where everyone has the tools to succeed.

A Story of Love and Inclusion: Joe Ingles

A few days ago, NBA player Joe Ingles made headlines—not for a basketball feature, but for something far more meaningful. Joe, a seasoned veteran in the league, currently plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves. On March 21st, he had a very special fan in attendance: his 8-year-old son, Jacob, who is autistic.

What made this moment so powerful? Joe, who typically comes off the bench, was given a spot in the starting lineup. The reason? So that Jacob (who never attended a live game) could hear his father’s name announced in the arena and see him play from the very start of the game.

After the game, Joe spoke openly about why this moment mattered so much. He shared the fears he and his wife shared when they first learned about Jacob’s diagnosis, the challenges they continue to navigate .

Joe’s story is a perfect reminder of what World Autism Awareness Day is all about. It’s about visibility. It’s about support. It’s about sharing stories and learn from them. It’s about ensuring that individuals with autism feel valued, included, and celebrated for who they are.

Celebrate autism everyday: Cynthia

Cynthia Rosignolo’s journey with her son, Michael, is one of love, resilience, and unwavering advocacy. When Michael was diagnosed with autism at just 13 months old, Cynthia and her husband faced the unknown, navigating a world that often isn’t built for children like theirs. Michael, a bright and curious 4-year-old, is currently nonspeaking, but his voice is far from silent. Through sign language, picture exchanges, and assistive technology, he’s finding new ways to express himself, proving that communication isn’t limited to words. Every small victory—whether it’s a new method of expression or a moment of engagement—is a milestone worth celebrating.

Determined to help other parents on similar journeys, Cynthia created Just on the Spectrum, a platform where she shares her family’s experiences, challenges, and triumphs. She understands firsthand that finding the right tools for a child with autism isn’t always easy—it’s a process of trial, adaptation, and discovery. But when something does work, it can be life-changing. Her mission is to build a supportive community, raise awareness, and ensure that every child, no matter their abilities, has the opportunity to thrive. Through her advocacy, she’s showing the world that autism isn’t a limitation—it’s simply a different way of experiencing life.

In 2024, she started a partnership with Clevy, and we wrote an article about her!

Furthermore, on the UN website is possible to register for this year’s Autism Day event. Organized by the Institute of Neurodiversity (ION) in collaboration with the United Nation Department of Global Communication.
