World Down Syndrome Day

Every year on March 21st, we come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD)—a day dedicated to embracing diversity, fostering understanding, and championing the limitless potential of individuals with Down syndrome. At Clevy, we believe in a world where technology, opportunity, and compassion empower everyone to thrive.

Why March 21st?

The significance of this date is deeply meaningful. The 21st day of the 3rd month represents the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, the genetic characteristic of Down syndrome. Since its official recognition by the United Nations in 2012, WDSD has grown into a global movement that encourages people everywhere to celebrate inclusion and advocate for meaningful change. 6. Advocate for Change – Write to policymakers and encourage stronger support systems, better education, and equal opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome.
  7. Wear Blue & Yellow – The official colors of WDSD.
  8. Celebrate Success Stories
  9. Use Inclusive Language
  10. Promote Inclusion in Schools & Workplaces – Encourage organizations to foster environments where everyone, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to succeed.

Assume that I CAN– Maybe I WILL

For WDSD 2024, the Italian association COORDOWN created a powerful video that challenges the impact of negative assumptions. Too often, individuals with Down syndrome are met with low expectations, which can shape their experiences in a way that limits their opportunities—a concept known in sociology as a ‘self-fulfilling prophecy.’ But what happens when we change this narrative?

By assuming capability instead of limitation, we create a world where people with Down syndrome are given the opportunities they deserve—in education, workplaces, relationships, and beyond. And when we believe in possibility, we help turn it into reality.

An Inclusive Future

Creating an inclusive world isn’t just an aspiration—it’s a responsibility we all share. Awareness leads to dialogue, and dialogue leads to change. When we work together to break down barriers, we open doors to a future where everyone can thrive.

At Clevy, our mission is to make technology more accessible, ensuring that no one is left behind. Because when we assume that everyone can, we create a world where everyone will.
