Meet Kobe: A 13-Year-Old Advocate for Developmental Coordination Disorder

Kobe is a 13-year-old boy from Belgium who recently reached out to us to raise awareness for his charity event, where he plans to bike 100 kilometres to support those with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). He also shared how the Clevy Keyboard has helped him tremendously with his schoolwork and education. Here is what Kobe has shared with us.

"Hello, I'm Kobe. I'm 13 years old and I have DCD, that stands for Developmental Coordination Disorder. This means that my brain and body don’t always work together very well. Because of that, things like writing are very difficult for me."

"When I was 8, my parents gave me a Clevy Keyboard with large, colorful keys. That changed a lot for me. Thanks to that keyboard, I learned how to type. My physical therapist helped me a lot with this. At first, it was slow, with small steps, but now I can type easily on a regular laptop, which I use every day at home and in the classroom. I can do my schoolwork, follow lessons, and take tests – all without getting frustrated or using up all my energy on writing. The Clevy keyboard gave me a fair chance to show what I’m really capable of."

We were incredibly proud to read how the Clevy Keyboard has helped Kobe, and we felt so inspired by his story. Then Kobe shared another passion – raising awareness for Developmental Coordination Disorder through his own initiative.

Kid-On-A-Bike

"Because I know how hard it can be to live with DCD, I wanted to do something. On Saturday, June 28, I’m biking 100 km for all children with DCD. My campaign is called Kobike4DCD. The proceeds will go to vzw Dyspraxis, a parent association for children with Developmental Coordination Disorder. They will use the money to create an educational escape game about living with DCD."

Alt has, of course, decided to donate as well, and we kindly encourage everyone who can to contribute to this incredible cause.

Thank you so much, Kobe, for sharing your story and for being such a powerful advocate!
